November 15, 2012 -Meeting Minutes


·         Meeting called to order at 12:14pm.
·         Andre discussed Soup Day
A.  The left over cans were given to the Social Work Club to be served at the Bethlehem Center.
B.  Swisegood suggested that the next soup day, a committee be formed and have reps from each club participating so it will be better organized and put together.
C.  Andre mentioned that not many club members were there for set-up and clean-up, AGS helped with both.
D.  $85 was made from donations
-  $45 will go to the scholarship fund
-  $45 will go to the Bethlehem Center
·         Friday after the Thanksgiving the Social Work club is helping serve food at the Bethlehem center. A sign-up sheet was passed around for those who would like to volunteer to help.
·         Robert gave the treasurers report
A.  Total amount is $1,591.62
- $100 is reserved for the scholarship
-  $50 for wristbands
·         Minutes from 11/08/12 were reviewed for approval.

·         Andre mentioned that there are only 2 meetings left in this semester
·         We will have an end of the year potluck, members decided that it will be held on December 6th.

·         Germaine discussed the PACE fair on November 29th.
A.  Members decided to participate in pace fair and make candles, headbands, bows, wristbands, ribbons, and other items

·         Andre asked members if there is anything that they would like th see next semester?
A.  Robert discussed having a Pride Club at the Hanford campus next semester and what it would entail and how the two would be formed in unison. This will be discussed further at a later date.
-  Swisegood mentioned the difference between sister clubs and having their own separate club.
·         A signup sheet for the potluck will be passed around on November 29th.
·         Meeting is adjourned at 12:45pm.

November 08, 2012 -Meeting Minutes


·         Meeting called to order at 12:16pm.
·         Meeting minutes from 10/25/12 were reviewed for approval.
A.   “Voted to approve $50 for wristbands” was mentioned twice and needs to be amended.
B.   Club voted to approve the minutes with the amendment

·         Andre passed out membership forms for those who have not yet filled one out or paid the $3 dues
·         Meeting minutes from 11/01/12 were reviewed for approval

·         Alicia went into further detail about the approval of prop 8 that is going in front of the Supreme Court on the 20th  of November.
A.   We do not want it to pass because then the decision of the 9th district will immediately go into effect.
·         Andre passed a card for members to fill out and be sent to Mundo in congratulations for becoming the new ASB president.
·         Juan gave the ICC update.
A.   Two more soups for Soup Day were donated.
B.   Halloween event didn’t go as well overall as anticipated.
C.   COS equestrian team won 2nd place in the region and sold more pumpkins at their Harvest Festival than ever before.
D.   Dec 3rd is ICC last meeting. There will be a potluck and pictures.
E.   Mentioned the Democrat rally held In & Out on Election Day, in support of Prop 30.
F.   Carl’s Jr’s lease is up. There is a petition to get rid of them and replace it with other options. A questionnaire and suggestion sheet was passed around for all members to fill out and give opinions on the issue. The new lease will be for the next 6 years.
·         Andre gave the treasurers update because Robert was unable to speak.
A.   $160.62 has been raised this year so far; which altogether totals to $1,410.62 in the account.
§  The scholarship for next year has been covered so far.
·         ASB has bought one-thousand spoons and one-thousand cups for Soup Day.
·         AGS has decided to join Soup Day which means our goal of feeding 500 students has been met.
·         Jasmine discussed ‘Make a Difference Day’ and let all who were unable to attend know how it went.
·         Andre reviewed the sign-up sheet for Soup Day to confirm everyone’s items to bring and time scheduled to work.
·         Club decided to change the start time of Soup Day from 10am to 11am. Set-up will still be at 9am.

·         Club members discussed buying a new canopy since ours is falling apart. This will be discussed further at a later date.
·         Andre will buy gloves For Soup Day.
·         Andre and Alicia suggested that club members should all purchase a club t-shirt and wear it to all events.
·         Andre announced an event in support of the transgendered on November 20th in Fresno on Court Ave. There will be a candle light vigil.

November 01, 2012 -Meeting Minutes



·         Meeting called to order at 12:13pm.
·         Meeting minutes from 10/18/12 were reviewed for approval.
A.   Juan motioned

·         Andre announced that the Halloween event made a total of $31 in sales.
A.   Treasurer, Robert was unable able to attend so report was not given.
B.   Alicia mentioned that at the next event someone MUST buy gloves ahead of time.
§  The club could be reprimanded for not doing so.
C.   Alicia suggested that for the next even we need to make sign up sheets to be more specific to times and duties to make sure that someone there is responsible for the cash box at all times.
·         Soup Day was discussed
A.   Andre will talk to Panera about bread donations
B.   Juan will talk to ASB about providing a budget or donations for spoons, 8oz cups, napkins, gloves, etc.
D.   Mimi’s will be contacted to ask for donations by either Erin or Alicia.
E.   Projected amount of soup donated based on sign-up sheets thus far is estimated to provide approximately 400 servings. These include:
§  Pride Club – 6 soups
§  ASB – 3 soups
§  Social Work – 7 soups
§  Pride Lions Club – 6 soups
F.   We will only buy enough supplies for how much soup we will have. Do not over buy.
·         Germaine talked about how the overall Halloween event went.
·         T-shirt raffle was conducted
A.   Juan collected $1 donations which totaled to $8
B.   Justine won the raffle
·         Club members decided not to participate in the Veterans Day event.
·         Andre announced the unfortunately Mundo has decided to resign at Vice President of the Pride club.
A.   New nominations for a replacement will be conducted at the next meeting.
·         There will be the open discussion forum with the president of COS on Tuesday, November 6 in the quad for those that wish to attend.
·         Andre reminded everyone of the reading of prop 8 being put on at the Ice House theatre this Friday and Saturday evening.
A.   Erin mentioned that if you are unable to attend but still want to watch you can Google it and there are videos you can watch online.
·         Alicia mentioned that the Supreme Court will be reviewing prop 8 on November 20th and if passed will go into effect the next day.
·         Meeting is adjourned at 12:47pm.

October 25, 2012 -Meeting Minutes


COS PRIDE CLUB
10/25/2012 Minutes
·         Meeting called to order at 12:10pm.
·         Andre introduced Joan who had an announcement
A.   Joan reminded us of ‘Make a Difference Day’
                              -We will be meeting at 8am at the corner of Santa Fe and Ferguson.
               -We will gain city recognition.
               -A sign-up sheet was passed around.
·         Club members reviewed information regarding the Halloween carnival which will be held on Wednesday, October 31st from 10am-1pm
A.   We will be selling “worms in dirt” 
                           -We don’t need any more supplies; those who signed up at the last meeting provided all that was necessary.
·         Juan gave the ICC update
A.   Computer Tech Club is giving away free desktop computers in room 421.
B.   Veggie club is giving away free food in the quad today until 1pm.
C.   There will be tree planting happening around town on October 27th in celebration of ‘Make a Difference Day’
D.   ASB went to LA over the weekend for a student leadership conference.
 -Juan joined Spectrum Caucus and become the representative for the California north region.
E.   Juan discussed the importance of Prop 30 and the effect it has on us as students.
 -Prop 30: 98% funding to education, 2% to criminal justice.
 -Prop 38: Nothing goes to education but rather to pay the state debt instead.
·         Andre discussed soup day and reminded club members that it will be held on Nov 13th
A.   If members signed up to bring something PLEASE participate and follow through. Pride club is known for this event.
B.   Clubs that are involved so far include:
 -Social Work
  -ASB
  -Visalia Pride Lions
  -And Pride Club
C.   If you signed up to bring soup you MUST be there to serve it or find someone who can serve it for you if you have to leave for class.
D.   Set-up is at 9am, events starts at 10am and will continue until we run out of soup.
E.   Genevieve mentioned that she will be out of town that day and so Germaine will be in charge of event set-up, clean up, etc.   
·         Andre asked club members if we wanted to make and sell buttons.
A.   We have the machine to make them but we would need to help putting them together.
B.   A sign-up sheet was passed around.
·         Rebecca announced a Domestic Violence presentation that will be held tomorrow, Friday, from 4pm-8pm.
A.   Art show at 5:30pm representation of victims of sexual abuse.
B.   Quilt display, each panel is dedicated to a victim of domestic violence who has passed away as a result.
C.   Main speaker, Ellen, Author of “Tornado Warning” will start at 6pm.
D.   Candle light will be held at 8pm.
E.   Event held in the large theatre in front of COS campus right along Mooney.
·         Andre discussed the purchase and sales of wristbands
A.   The club voted and approved to purchase $50 worth from Gay Central Valley that the club will sell at future events.
 -Wristbands will be ordered in a variety of sizes.
B.   Genevieve motioned
·         Club members decided to deposit money earned from future wristband sales and donations into the scholarship fund.

·         Andre reviewed with everyone regarding the pride panel in the human sexuality course.
A.   All volunteers really enjoyed it and would highly recommend it to others.
·         Members reviewed supplies needed for the Halloween carnival
A.   Oreos are needed by Monday or Tuesday, will be provided by Germaine.
B.   Gummies will be provided by Andre.
·         MECHA will be holding a Dia de los Muertos event on Thursday, November 1st
A.   Volunteers are needed to help set-up Alters
B.   Event will be held from 10am-1pm.
C.   Winner will receive a pizza party.
D.   A sign-up sheet will be passed around
·         Juan announced a COS Veterans appreciation event on November 8th from 11am-1pm.
A.   $20 per table to participate or $10 if we give discounts to veterans.
B.   Volunteers are needed to help place flags around campus as well.
C.   This is the last major event of the semester.
D.   Sign up needs to be done by November 2nd.
·         Andre asked if there is anything else that needs to be discussed.
A.   Alicia announced a reading of prop 8 that will be presented by the Visalia Players next Friday & Saturday, November 1st and 2nd at the Visalia Ice House Theatre
